My interest in rivers was sparked by my own experience with an extreme climatic event. In my senior year of high school, my hometown in Vermont was hit by Tropical Storm Irene, which caused a historic flood that carried my neighbors' homes and hopes downstream. Here at Dartmouth, I have been lucky to have the opportunity to study the lasting geomorphic legacy of Irene and use dam removals as full-scale experiments to ask questions about how channels respond to disturbances during my MSc. During my PhD, I hope to apply the findings from these projects to understand how rivers will respond to a new climatic and hydrologic regime where extreme floods events are becoming more ordinary.
