I am a lecturer on all topics involving the long-term coevolution of geochemistry, climate, and life throughout Earth history. My research focuses on untangling the meaning of carbonate sediments deposited in ancient and alien ocean environments – primarily sediments which were precipitated via microbial and abiotic pathways which are rare or absent in modern marine environments. In order to bridge this gap in understanding I complement observations of ancient carbonate rocks in the field with high-resolution geochemical analyses, numerical models, laboratory nucleation experiments.
